It was a lot of fun for Grand Master Saffold to visit and train with the La Mesa, California Tang Soo Do School in January. See some pictures posted in a gallery in the photos page. Apologies are made for the delay in posting the pictures. Master Bonnie Welch and her Masters, Instructors, Dan Members, Students and Parents are the Best. It was good to see the excellence of training by all.

Martial Arts Testing and Seminar

The American Kwan Tang Soo Do Federation, Inc. held a Dan testing and Seminar on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Master Louis Soma’s Grand Ledge Do Jang. Check back for pictures as they become available. (See the Photos in the galleries)

The testing results are now in and announced. Senior Master Walt Rodd tested for his 8th Dan. Master Lisa Dzik tested for her 5th Dan, and Mr. Rich Sajtos tested for his 4th Dan. How’d they do? Well ask any of the many who witnessed their work.

Grand Master James Saffold had the Honor and Privilege to promote Senior Master Walter W. Rodd to Grand Master, 8th Dan. This is a lifetime milestone for a Martial Artist and Grand Master Rodd is a fine example of what a Martial Artist is and does and should be. Thank you Grand Master Rodd for being part of the American Kwan Tang Soo Do Federation. We are a better Organization because of you.

Master Lisa Dzik showed us all how well a test can be done. She has worked many years and given the Martial Arts in general and American Kwan Tang Soo Do Federation in particular, a fine example to follow. It is a pleasure and an honor to promote her to Master, 5th Dan. Another great job Master Dzik.

Mr. Richard Sajtos tested for the belt that he has worked so many years to obtain. He performed his testing in an outstanding manner. It is a pleasure and an honor to promote him to Master, 4th Dan. The red “Master’s” stripe on your belt looks really great and is well earned.

The seminar was well attended from White Belt to Senior Master, all worked hard and managed to work up a good sweat. Who was the mystery Ninja that Master Ross sparred? Hint: See how closely he resembles Master Hayme Serrato, one of the finest Martial Arts Masters in the world today. Master Serrato is certainly one of the best sparring partners anyone could wish to train with.

Three new forms were introduced for use in augmenting the beginning forms learned by the newest of students. Sae Kye Il Bu, Yi Bu, and Sam Bu as developed by Master Peter DeFosses, were taught and discussed. Everyone said how well these forms fit and supplement the Geicho forms.

The balance forms, Choong Shim Yi Dan and Sam Dan were practiced. Choong Shim Cho Dan was reviewed with everyone getting a little more used to its easy and its difficult movements.

On Saturday, March 13, 2010, The League of Grand Masters confirmed and awarded the rank of 9th Degree Black Belt to Grand Master James Saffold.

Grand Master has spent his life training, teaching, and studying the Korean Martial Arts and is honored to have been awarded this high rank award. I would like to thank all those who have been part of this life long quest in the Martial Arts.
